Summer Reading Club

Summer Reading Club

Keep young minds and bodies active this summer by joining the Helen Crocker Russell Library's Summer Reading Club. This free* reading club is for children interested in learning about the natural world around them. Each week children will be introduced to new nature-related reading themes and garden activities, plant seeds in the Children's Garden as they reach weekly reading goals, and receive a special prize for completing the entire eight-week program.

Where: Helen Crocker Russell Library, San Francisco Botanical Garden
When: June 1–July 31 (Kick-off: Sunday, June 1)
Drop-in to the Summer Reading Club anytime 10am-4pm, Wednesday-Monday (closed Tuesdays)
Who: Children ages 0-12 (children who are not of reading age can be read to by parents)

The program is self-paced and children and families can drop-in to the Library any time during open hours starting June 1 to sign up, pick up their weekly activities, and log their reading accomplishments. Children can read any books they wish and are not limited to reading lists or themes; any book read during the Summer Reading Club can be counted towards their reading accomplishments. Reading Logs include suggested titles and fun garden activities.

Our collection of children's library books is available for all to enjoy. SFBG Members may check-out children's books from the Library to read at home. Non-members are welcome to read books on-site or start their own San Francisco Botanical Garden Society Membership at any level and immediately enjoy check-out privileges for the children's collection.

*Access to the Library is always free for all. Admission to the San Francisco Botanical Garden is free for San Francisco residents and children 4 and under.
