In collaboration with the world premiere of San Francisco Opera's The Secret Garden, we invite you to take a journey at San Francisco Botanical Garden to explore some of our favorite 'Secret Gardens'.

Classes Scavenger Hunt

Saturday, March 9, 1–4pm
Families with children 5-12 can explore our secret gardens while assembling materials for a secret art project. Visit favorite parts of San Francisco Botanical Garden and discover new ones as you make your way out to our Children's Garden to work with program staff. Pick up materials at the entry kiosks; heavy rain cancels. Free with entry.

Family Funday Family Funday

Sundays, March 3 & 17, 10:30am
Enjoy stories, garden walks, and craft activities in the Botanical Garden! Join us for Library Story Time at 10:30am, then get outside and enjoy a guided family garden walk, departing the library at 11am. Drop by our activity station from 11:30–1:30pm and make a garden craft project to take home.

WORLD PREMIERE: OPERA FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!

Frances Hodgson Burnett's beloved classic of children's literature comes alive in a new opera created for the entire family. A pampered young girl born to privilege finds herself alone in a bleak and unfamiliar land, until she discovers the hidden wonder of an abandoned secret garden. Unexpected friendships and a new life blossom as she makes the garden flourish again, leading both young and old toward a path of healing and understanding.

Music by Nolan Gasser and Libretto by Carey Harrison. Co-production with Cal Performances presented at Zellerbach Hall, UC Berkeley.
