Youth Education

The Youth Education Program serves over 10,000 San Francisco school-aged children and their families every year. School groups enjoy perennial favorites like our Guided School Walks and Children's Garden programs, families participate in Story Time Walks or the Urbia Treasure Hunt, and everyone can learn from fun online resources that bring the Botanical Garden to life!

Ecoliteracy at SFUSD: Summer Institute for K-2 Teachers Science in the Park June 6 - 10, 2016
Presented by: San Francisco Botanical Garden and California Academy of Sciences for teachers of pre-K through 2nd grade.

Escape from your classroom and spend a week in the park!
Explore the San Francisco Botanical Garden, the California Academy of Sciences, and Golden Gate Park. This immersive week-long workshop will provide you with the tools, techniques, and confidence to give your students meaningful outdoor learning experiences. Stipend provided, more information here.

 

Self-Guided Walks

Teachers are welcome to bring students of all ages for self-guided visits and admission is free. The "Nature Detectives" packet is available for K-5 teachers to help you make the most of your visit. Worksheets on plant adaptations and habitats will help older students explore the garden on their own or in groups. Please contact us at (415) 661-1316 x 406 to let us know of your plans, and please be sure your students understand that the garden not just a park, but a museum with living specimens that must be treated with respect.
