Thank you for visiting the San Francisco Botanical Garden web site. This site includes information about San Francisco Botanical Garden at Strybing Arboretum, and is made possible by its non-profit support organization, the San Francisco Botanical Garden Society. The Society provides fundraising, advocacy and educational opportunities to the general public. The policies contained in this section are set forth by the Society. Both organizations are referred to collectively as SFBG.

The SFBG Plant Finder is continually updated and expanded by staff and volunteers, and contains known inaccuracies that are being addressed as quickly as possible; the database is neither error-free nor comprehensive for all collections. While the San Francisco Botanical Garden makes reasonable efforts to maintain accuracy, it accepts no responsibility for errors or omissions. Our privacy policy governs our use of information gathered about you. SFBG is committed to maintaining your confidence and trust in all of its activities with you.

Protecting Your Information

SFBG values the privacy of its audiences. We DO NOT trade or sell e-mail addresses with or to other companies, or to organizations and groups seeking to build targeted or untargeted lists. We will not send e-mail marketing 'spam' messages to you. Any personal information you have provided us via our web site, including your name, address, contact information and credit card information are carefully guarded. We have implemented industry standard security mechanisms to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction.

Credit Card Information

Currently, we do not have the ability to process credit cards online. When you provide us your credit card information online, it is securely transmitted to us through Secure Sockets Layer encryption, an advanced data encryption system used to ensure the security and confidentiality of information exchanged between your browser and this Site's server. We process the transaction "off-line" the next business day. You then receive email notification that your credit card has been charged and the transaction is complete.

Personal Information

SFBG collects data from Members and others who have provided it to us. We utilize information collected from users in order to to improve our level of service, make the site more useful, to respond to your queries and to inform users of SFBG events, special offers, news and developments. When you provide information via our Web site, we may use it to occasionally notify you about special events, news and developments at the Garden, unless you have indicated that you prefer not to be contacted. If you have "opted-in"and then decide to "opt-out" of being contacted, we will promptly remove you from our mailing list at your request.

How We Analyze Your Visit to Our Web Site

You should be aware that when you visit our website and other websites, you leave a trail of data. While we don't know who you are, some of the things we do know are:

SFBG performs statistical analysis on this data in an effort to improve our service. For instance, should we learn that a high percentage of our visitors read articles about plant propagation, we would publish more information about this subject.
