The San Francisco Botanical Garden Society is currently seeking
Two Summer Garden Interns
Interns would assist the San Francisco Rec and Park Nursery gardeners and the plant collection department. Interns will work a total of 300 hours during the work week, June-August, schedules are flexible. Interns will be working under the direct supervision of San Francisco Rec and Park gardeners in one of the nine plant collections in the Garden.
One third of the intern's time will be spent on plant id to facilitate the GIS mapping project. Interns will be checking maps, identifying plants and working with the Gardeners and GIS team to create correct maps. Two-thirds time will be spent on weed management, fertilization, mulching, soil replenishment, watering, pruning, green waste removal, and planting.
Required Experience and Education
Candidate must have a strong interest in Gardening and plant ID. He or she must be currently enrolled in college studying one of the following disciplines: Horticulture, Botany, Environmental Science, Forestry, Landscape Design or Plant ID. Candidate must have completed one year of study in one or more of the disciplines. Candidate must have some gardening experience as well of some basic knowledge of insects and plant diseases. He or she must be able to lift 50 pounds, bend, squat, and stand for long periods of time.
Interns receive an hourly stipend.
